This circular focuses on ensuring a smoother discharge experience for patients undergoing hospitalization.

Here’s what the new regulation means for you:

  • Faster Discharge Approvals:

    Health insurance companies must now grant final authorization for discharge within three hours of receiving a request from the hospital. This eliminates the worry of waiting for approval before leaving the hospital.

  • No More Delays:

    If the insurer fails to meet the three-hour deadline, they are responsible for covering any additional hospital charges incurred due to the delay. This financial responsibility ensures insurers prioritize timely approvals.

  • Expedited Claim Settlement in Case of Death:

    In the unfortunate event of a policyholder passing away during treatment, the insurer must:

    • Immediately process the claim settlement request.
    • Facilitate the prompt release of the mortal remains from the hospital, minimizing stress for the grieving family.
